Why you shouldn’t wait to book your wedding suit fitting.

Your wedding’s on the horizon. You’ve got a list as long as your arm and a million and one things that you need to tick off before you say “I do”. Maybe one of those tasks is making sure that you look your absolute best for your big day. And maybe that’s coming at the expense of getting your wedding suit fitting booked in plenty of time.

We’ve seen this so many times. Grooms who either want to bulk up or trim down before the wedding. They delay their wedding suit fitting with the hope that it’ll give them more time to nail their body goals. The problem is, this (more often than not) can lead to unexpected fit issues, tight timelines and extra stress; all things that you don’t need in the run-up to your special day.

SAVE FOR LATER: STYLISH SUITS THAT ACTUALLY FIT

Why early wedding suit fittings are so important.

Early wedding suit fittings are not an option – they’re a necessity. While you may want to lose a few pounds or go all guns blazing at the gym before choosing your groomswear, waiting to have your wedding suit fitting can limit your options dramatically or even mean your chosen style isn’t available in time.

This is because your suit provider will have set lead times with their factory that they need to adhere to, as well as limited stock availability on items. Plus, the later you wait, the less time you’ll have for adjustments or to source alternatives. That moth-eaten suit in the back of your wardrobe may end up making an appearance sooner rather than later… And let’s face it, no one wants that.

Weight loss, muscle gain and wedding suit fittings – what actually changes?

Whether you’re aiming to slim down, tone up or see whether you’ve got a hidden talent for bodybuilding before the big day, it’s important to understand how these changes can impact the way your suit fits. Weight loss can alter your chest, waist and trouser measurements in ways that tailors need time to work with, and muscle gain can shift things just as drastically.

We’ve seen grooms pour time and effort into amping up their gym routine, double the size of their thighs and then find they can’t get into their suit trousers, even though they were technically “fitter” than before. And sometimes, even when the number on the scales hasn’t changed much, body recomposition can subtly reshape your proportions.

Of course, if this is your aim, then we’re not here to tell you to stop. However, it’s important to remember that the earlier you secure your suit, the more flexibility you’ll have for those final adjustments, ensuring your groomswear looks sharp, feels comfortable and fits like a glove on the day.

Our recommended timelines.

Around three to four months before the big day, we ask that the adults in the groom’s party come into our store for the first suit fitting.  With this in mind, we recommend you visit for your first consultation – and to choose your suits – around four to five months prior to the wedding.

For your party (where appropriate), you can either book multiple appointments, back-to-back appointments (and all come in together) or pass the link on to the rest of the party and let the guys book themselves in. If you’ve got any kids being fitted, they’ll need to come in around a month before collection.

Your final fittings and collection will normally be three to four days before the wedding.

This timeline isn’t just about keeping things organised: it genuinely makes the fitting process smoother for everyone. Coming in early allows us to secure your suit while stock levels are still strong, order anything that needs to come in from the factory, and plan any adjustments without rushing.

Then, by leaving your final fitting close to the wedding, we can account for any natural body changes that may have happened along the way, ensuring everything fits perfectly when it matters most. It gives you the reassurance of having your suit sorted, without losing the flexibility needed for those finishing touches.
