How Hunter & Grey’s tailored the perfect Clock Barn wedding suit.
We love reflecting on our weddings. Despite helping many a groom find their perfect suit over the years, we really do remember every one of them. Because every wedding – and the people who make it – is so unique. Which is why we wanted to start our ‘Behind the Seams’ case study series in the first place. Our latest installment is about Dan and Jenny’s beautiful Clock Barn wedding here in Hampshire.
We spoke to Dan and Jenny about their picture-perfect wedding, a budding romance at a statistics lecture and how a close shave nearly sent their photo album spiralling.
The Happy Couple.
Dan and Jenny are one of those couples who were meant to be. After meeting in the first week of University back in 2013 (“our eyes met across the room in the incredibly romantic setting of a statistics lecture!”), the couple moved apart following their three-year romance.
However, a chance meeting in 2019 brought the pair back together. From that moment, everything fell into place!
The Brief.
The couple had a pretty good idea of their wedding vibe, and somewhat of an idea about what Dan wanted for the suits. It was really important that the style fit in with their venue – Clock Barn, Hampshire – and that everything worked in sync. What they actually landed on – in the end – was somewhere in the middle.
Dan said: “Initially, I was certain I would have a pink waistcoat coat – but it didn’t fit with everything else. Instead, I got the elements of pink from the tie.”
Dan needed a suit for himself, his best man (Ben) and his groomsman (Pete). So, with an initial idea and some gentle encouragement to look outside of the box from Hannah (one half of the Hunter & Grey’s duo), we were excited to land on something totally perfect for the groom-to-be.
The Approach.
Hannah knew that Dan wanted to incorporate pink into the look – but, instead of settling immediately on a waistcoat, she invited him to change one item of clothing at a time (be that the waistcoat, the tie or the suit) to see how the whole combination fit together.
Dan said: “I loved the process! Despite you having hundreds of clients, you made it feel as though I was the only person you were working for. The attention to detail and making decisions based solely on how I felt was incredibly touching.”
We’re so glad that this was how Dan felt – it really is the entire ethos behind the H&G way!
The Result.
Together, Hannah, Dan and the groomsmen created a beautiful, memorable wardrobe that perfectly encapsulated the timeless but luxurious essence of Clock Barn.
Dan opted for a made-to-measure suit, while hiring his contrast waistcoat and the suits for the rest of the party (an option that not all suit providers offer… Just saying!).
Their wardrobe consisted of:
- Pewter jacket and trousers for both the groom and groomsmen
- Stone waistcoat for the groom, ocean waistcoat for the groomsmen
- Lodden Pink (Liberty of London) tie and pocket square for the groom
- Flamingo Eleganza tie and pocket square for the groomsmen
- Standard collar shirts and mid-brown shoes
- Navy braces for the groom
And despite Dan cutting his finger the morning of the wedding (an unfortunate – and very well timed – shaving incident!) and having to hide the plaster in all of the photos, their big day really did go off without a hitch. From their brilliant photographer, Chris Giles, to the idyllic venue and attentive staff at Clock Barn, the pair couldn’t have asked for more.
But what about the suit? How did that go down?
“Everything about it was perfect! It felt incredible when I put the full outfit on for real.”
Well, that’s exactly what we want to hear! Congratulations to the happy couple, and we wish you a lifetime of happiness.
