The best suits for autumn weddings (and how to style them).

Golden sunlight pouring through red and orange leaves… Ultimate, cosy vibes (tall glass of cool beer by the fire, anyone?)… Stylish, layered looks that are quintessentially British… You can see why there’s been a rise in Autumn weddings here in the UK. And when it comes to the best suits for autumn weddings, Hunter & Grey’s are the authority in seasonal suiting.

‘Cos let’s face it – if you are planning an Autumn wedding, you’re probably wondering what suit works best for that in-between season.

The really good news? Autumn wedding suits offer up the chance to flex your creative muscles. To give those warmer colour palettes a try and to make sure your suit matches the dreamy autumnal atmosphere that is going to make your wedding a cut above the rest.

Read on for our guide for grooms on the very best autumn wedding suits and styling.

The best suits for Autumn weddings (and why autumn is the perfect season for a stylish suit) 🍁

While we of course love providing suits whatever the season, we’ve got a soft spot for an autumn wedding. There’s something about groom suits for autumn; so much that makes them really special when it comes to menswear.

The cooler temperatures mean that the groom has tons more fabric options. Essentially, whatever they want, they can have (without the risk of major sweat patches… Always a bonus!). Tweed, wool blends and layering are popular in autumn, but we’ve also seen our grooms opt for morning suits with a stylish tweed waistcoat.

However, it’s the colours that really get us excited with autumn weddings. Grooms have far more creative styling choices, simply because the rich seasonal colours lend themselves to more options (which also match perfectly with bridesmaid colours and overall colour themes). Burnt orange always comes up trumps, as do luscious shades of forest green, mustard yellow, rich russet red, chestnut brown and amber-honey tones. Whether it’s a dash of one of these colours, or something more bold, they promise to add a chic flair to groom suits for autumn.

Another bonus of an autumn wedding suit (and an autumn wedding in general) is that the blend of rustic and formal venues go well with a huge range of suits. We see autumn weddings in barns, manors, vineyards and churches: all of these venues suit different groomswear, and so if you’ve got your heart set on black tails or a velvet jacket, chances are you’ve picked a venue that’s going to enhance that vibe.

Top suit colours for autumn weddings.

We’ve touched on autumn wedding suit colours, but why might you opt for one colour theme over another?

🍁 Mahogany: Romantic and warm; pairs beautifully with gold or ivory accents. This deep red tone oozes elegance and works brilliantly for evening weddings or venues with candlelight and vintage charm. It’s a bold choice, but one that never feels overdone.

🌲 Forest green: Understated yet bold – pairs well with navy or brown shoes. Forest green brings a touch of the outdoors in and complements both rustic and formal settings. It also sits perfectly against cream, blush, or copper wedding palettes.

🌾 Rust/orange-toned browns: Ideal for rustic barn weddings. Think warm, golden fields and crackling log fires – these tones are made for countryside venues. Pair with textured fabrics like tweed or flannel for a look that feels rooted in the season.

🌌 Midnight navy: A timeless autumn twist on the classic. Navy is always in style, but in autumn, going a shade deeper adds richness and drama. Perfect for modern grooms who want something sleek with subtle seasonal depth.

Best fabrics for autumn wedding suits.

What you wear is only half the story; how it feels, moves, and holds up throughout the day really matters. Here are our go-to autumn fabrics for grooms:

🧵 Tweed: Textured, traditional and perfect for rustic or countryside venues. Tweed brings instant heritage charm and works beautifully with layered looks and vintage accessories.

🧶 Wool/Wool-blend: Wonderfully warm with a really great structure. It’s a classic for a reason. Wool keeps you warm without bulk, and blends offer comfort with a polished silhouette.

🕴️ Velvet (for accents): Luxurious touch for jackets or accessories. A velvet blazer, bowtie or even pocket square adds richness and a little drama; ideal for evening ceremonies or moody, romantic themes.

Our top tip? It’s actually about what to avoid. Lightweight summer linens are going to look (and feel) out of place in these cooler temperatures, while overly shiny formalwear may not catch quite the way you want them to in the bright autumn light.

How to style your suit for an autumn wedding.

The way you style a suit is how you move it from ‘meh’ to memorable – the kind of look that’s going to forever last the test of time.

There are endless ways that you can style a wedding suit for autumn. If you’re looking for layers, you can’t go wrong with a swish waistcoat. Alternatively, if you want to bring in that pop of colour, a statement tie or a cravat in one of those irresistible autumn tones is a great way to mix things up without going overboard. Even your buttonhole is an opportunity to show your sense of style: autumn wedding suits look great with a floral touch of dried lavender, eucalyptus or even a small dahlia.

When it comes to footwear, many of our autumn grooms go for leather brogues, while those trusting the very untrustworthy British weather like to team their suit up with suede. We’ve even seen grooms go for boots when they have a barn venue!
