In the first of our ‘Behind the Seams’ real wedding case studies, we spoke to the brilliant Phil and Ellie about reconnecting after many years, having family front and centre of their wedding and the surprising way ‘pink’ showed up in their wedding wardrobe.

Our new Behind the Seams case study series will focus on the couples we have had the pleasure of supporting in the lead-up to their wedding. First up, we spoke to Phil and Ellie all about their summer wedding.
The Happy Couple.
Phil and Ellie are the definition of ‘meant to be’. They met all the way back in primary school, but lost contact when they went to secondary school. After reconnecting in 2022, the pair went for lunch… And, as they say, the rest is history!
They’ve been together ever since, with Phil taking on the important love and responsibility of Ellie’s older children following the sad loss of their father. The two now also share a gorgeous little girl.
Phil put it perfectly when he told us, “they’re my whole world”.
The Brief.
While the pair had a clear idea of what vibe they wanted for their wedding, when it came to the groomswear, Phil didn’t especially know what he wanted. In fact, the end result was totally different from what he’d imagined (but more on that later).
The groom’s party would consist of Phil, Ellie’s Dad and the three boys – Brett, Benjamin and Bailey (who all had key roles to play during the ceremony). It was crucial that their wardrobe suited such a wide range of ages, while ensuring the boys felt confident for their parent’s special day.
The Approach.
Behind the seams, Hannah – one half of the team that brings Hunter & Grey’s to life – made it her mission to gently nudge Phil out of this comfort zone. Time and time again, we find that it’s the least expected options that make the biggest impact. Phil’s groom’s party was no exception.
“Hannah encouraged me to try on tons of different things – and I’m so glad she did. I ended up with pink in my suit, which I absolutely loved but didn’t think I would ever have!”
Our work with Phil and his family also required a bit of flexibility after they missed the boy’s suit fitting.
“Hannah was absolutely incredible from start to finish, especially with the boys, who she got in one by one to their fittings to save the day!”
The Result.
Together, Hannah and the groomsmen landed on a beautiful blend of classic tailoring and a soft, summer colour palette.
Phil’s wardrobe consisted of:

While the rest of his party wore:

And while the nerves were there in full abundance (guys, when are they not?!), the whole day was perfect – with a special shout out to Simon from South Coast Pictures for capturing their big day and Lydia Smith for the delicious wedding cake – from start to finish.
“Ellie looked absolutely stunning, and the bridesmaids and flower girls were beautiful. Everyone couldn’t stop smiling. Once the ceremony was done, knowing she was my wife is a feeling I can’t explain,” smiles Phil.
Looking at the photos, it really is clear that Phil and Ellie – and their gorgeous family – were always going to end up together.
And when asked if Phil was happy with the Hunter & Grey’s experience?
“Yes! I would definitely recommend Hunter & Grey’s. Everything was spot on, from communication to picking suits to the big day.”
